Every year on Yom HaShoah, communities around the world come together for ceremonies that mark and commemorate the atrocities of the Holocaust. Often, survivors are invited to share their testimonies and to recall their experiences, sharing stories of defiance, courage, and conviction. Yet, in a time where survivors are becoming increasingly scarce, an emergent question arises: How will we continue these legacies, commit to living these memories, and partake in the vow of Never Again?
In this upcoming gathering of First Hand, we invite you to join a conversation centered around the art of documentation. Four contemporary artists will share their work documenting Holocaust survivors and their creative journeys of retelling the story of another. What are the nuances necessary for piecing together these narratives? How are these stories shared with others? And what can we each learn from these processes?
Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 7pm, at the Greenpoint Shul, Brooklyn NY.
